MERCY SHIPS

Mercy Ships is an international humanitarian organization founded in 1978 in Switzerland.
It is active in developing countries, more specifically in Africa since 1990.
Knowing that more than 5 billion people worldwide have no access to surgical interventions, its hospital ships travel in developing countries to offer high level surgical and dental care to those in need. You can watch here a short video on the Mercy Ships’ response to global surgical need.
Its mission:
• provide highly specialized surgical services and dental care for free
• strengthen the skills of local medical staff to enable sustainable development of the sector
Mercy Ships is also developing agricultural training programs for families and disadvantaged communities to improve the quality of their food and thus improve their health.
Since its creation, Mercy Ships worked in over 70 countries, providing more than 70,000 surgeries and medical assistance to more than 2.5 million direct beneficiaries.
Currently, one hospital ship, the Africa Mercy, is active. The Africa Mercy is the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world. It is located in Cameroon, serving in a mission from August 2017 to June 2018.
